From Tórshavn, you can set off to Tjørnuvík, the northernmost village on Streymoy. You can drive through the tunnel or take Oyggjavegin, which on a clear day offers panoramic sights. Tjørnuvík is picturesque and lies in the bottom of a creek with a view towards the stone formations »Risin og Kellingin«. On the way to and from Tjørnuvík, there are many other villages you can enjoy. Drive on to Saksun to savour the inlet surrounded by high mountains. Saksun is known as one of the most beautiful sights of the Faroe Islands. When you reach the roundabout in Kollafjørður, you can choose to drive to Vestmanna, famous for their impressive bird-cliff excursions. On the way to Vestmanna you can explore the excavations in Kvívík that reveal remains of houses from the age of Vikings. This shows that Kvívík is one of the oldest settlements on the islands. Visit Kirkjubøur, the southernmost village on Streymoy. Kirkjubøur was the spiritual centre of society in the middle ages. Here you can also see the remains of the Magnus Cathedral referred to as »Múrurin« (the wall). For more information about routes where to find sights, please contact the Tourist Information
