WHAT TO SEE

Arriving in Borðoy you can enjoy Klaksvík while planning your trip in Norðoyggjar. Drive to Viðoy to see Viðareiði, the northernmost village of the Faroe Islands. In the late 17th century a storm ruined the church in the village. Parts of the ceme tery washed away into the sea. It is said that several coffins drifted to Hvannasund, where they were saved, transported back to Viðareiði and buried again. You can also drive to Kunoy to see  the village surrounded by high mountains. Watching the sun set here on a summer's evening is really a special experience. The scenery is spectacular and the sense of peace is almosttangible. The church in Kunoy has an interesting story; to be able to finance the altarpiece and the chandelier for the church in Kunoy, every fishing boat in the village had to give one fish to the church, when they had been out fishing. Another possibility is to take the ferry from Klaksvík across to Kalsoy which is very distinctive with its long, narrow shape and myriad of tunnels. The village Mikladalur is renowed for its skilful craftsmen and artists. Or you can drive to Trøllanes »Fore land of Trolls«. The village, situated in a fertile green valley, has according to tradition received its name, because trolls visited it on The Twelfth Night (6th of Jan uary) every year.
