INFRASTRUCTURE
|
| Getting around the islands is easy. All of the islands are connected by a public transportsystem. It is also possible to take a helicopter to all far away places. The two largest islands, Streymoy and Eysturoy, are connected by a bridge, Sunda brúgvin, also called »The Channel Bridge«. A subsea tunnel connects the island of Vágar with Streymoy, and yet another subsea tunnel connects Borðoy to Eysturoy. Road causeways connect Borðoy with Viðoy and Kunoy. The other main islands, Sandoy and Suðuroy, have excellent car-ferry connections to Streymoy, making a drive around the Faroes easy and pleas ant. However, drivers of large vehicles (e.g. caravans or mobile homes) must plan their rout es carefully, considering the height before entering one of the numerous road tunnels in the Faroe Islands. Driving is on the right hand side and most road traffic signs follow international standards. |
