EXCHANGE - find also icons on the region maps
On the maps of the regions you are able to see where banks/ATM’s are locat ed. As a self-governing region of the Kingdom of Denmark, the Faroese government prints its own notes, although Danish coins are used. The exchange value is equivalent to the Danish krone, and there is no service charge on exchange, as Danish notes are equally acceptable as the Faroese notes throughout the country. Banks and post offices provide foreign exchange services. Automatic teller machines (ATM’s) are available for MasterCard/Eurocard, Visaand Dankort at various locations, e.g. at the banks located along the pedestrian area in the centre of Tórshavn. At Hotel Hafnia in Tórshavn you can with draw money on your American Express card. Most banks provide cash advances on credit cards. Several shops in the Faroes accept DK, Visa and MasterCard, but it is better to have cash available if you visit the smaller villages. The banks on the Faroe Islands are: Eik Banki, Føroya Banki, Norðoya Sparikassi and Suðuroyar Sparikassi. Opening hours:
• Weekdays – Banks in larger towns and some villages are open from 09.30 to 16.00 weekdays. On Thursdays, opening hours are extended until 18.00.
• Weekends – All banks are closed on Satur days and Sundays.
• Secure Automatic Teller Machines (ATM’s) are available from 06.00 until 02.00 every day.
